Martin Luther King is saying something very important to the people in his quote. He is stating the "perfect" type of person in today's world. One can be intelligent but will not have a good personality and that can kill everything. Same other way around. The idea is to be intelligent and also have that great personality to back it up. Being intelligent and having character will make people listen to what you have to say, it will get peolpe to agree with your arguments, it will help you throughout life.

What you are as a person is more important because it defines how you are with others and the state of mind you have towards reaching your goals. Some can be skilled, but won't have the ability to be a winner so they won't know how to win.
